Bite-Sized Review: The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue

Summary: The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue

In The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue, the Vanderbeeker kids return with more adventure, mischief, mayhem, and sweetness. And don’t forget — all the animals! The Vanderbeeker family is having a great spring break. For one, their mom has just been offered a magazine feature about her baking business. Oliver is building his first ever tree house and Isa’s finally home from band camp.

But just when the excitement begins to feel legitimate, the Vanderbeeker kids make a mistake that endangers their mom’s business. Now, they have to scramble to fix things before mom discovers — and before her magazine shoot date.

What I Loved

Characterization can be a challenging part of crafting a story and my favorite thing about this series is the individuality of all the characters. As they get older, the Vanderbeeker kids are growing into their respective personalities. This is definitely a win for the author and readers alike.

Also, series — whether middle-grade or otherwise — can quickly become stale for some readers (myself included). So for a series in its third installment, it’s refreshing that the Vanderbeekers still interest and thrill me like they did in the first book.

Finally, the plot in this novel is engaging, funny, and includes a surprising element of mystery that I enjoyed. If you’re on the fence whether or not to try this, you should! I’m eager to see the next two books in the series, follow this family, and see what they get up to next.

The third installment of the Vanderbeeker series is warm, funny, engaging, and has a surprising element of mystery. If you've enjoyed others in this series, this doesn't disappoint. Click To Tweet

Personal update: I’m finally done with six weeks of traveling. In case you didn’t notice, I pretty much gave up on keeping up after week 3 and just enjoyed my time away. However, I’m happy to be back and working through my drafts and TBR! What did I miss? Read anything fun? Let me know, please. I’m so out of the loop with books right now, haha.
